Year 5 and 6 Tag Rugby Union Festival at Lymm Rugby Club 4th October 2016

Twelve teams took part in the annual Year 5 & 6 Tag Rugby Union Festival at Lymm Rugby Club on the 4th October 2016. Some great rugby skills were shown throughout the group stages with some impressive wins and three teams winning all their group matches. A specific mention should go out to St Paul of the Cross Catholic Primary School who played the whole tournament with six players instead of the recommended 8 players.

Quarter Final Game 1 saw the first of two local derby’s with Ravenbank CP 1 outscoring Oughtrington CP 2 and winning the game 7-2. Quarter Final Game 2 saw both schools again play each other, with Oughtrington CP 1 beating Ravenbank CP 2 in a close match by a 4-3 score line. St Paul of the Cross Catholic Primary School beat Winwick CofE Primary School 1-0 in a hard fought match in Quarter Final Game 3. Quarter Final Game 4 pit Westbrook Old Hall Primary against the last Ravenbank CP team and Ravenbank CP 3 ran in 3 tries to Westbrook Old Hall’s 1.

The semi-finals were both tense close matches with Ravenbank CP 1 beating Oughtrington CP 1 and Ravenbank CP 3 beating St Paul of the Cross Catholic Primary. In the final Ravenbank CP 1 faced Ravenbank CP 3 with Ravenbank CP 1 coming out on top with a 3-1 win. While in the third and fourth playoff match Oughtrington CP 1 overcame St Paul of the Cross Catholic Primary with a 7-2 victory. Ravenbank CP School and Oughtrington CP School will now go on to represent Warrington School Sport Partnership at the Level 3 School Games in March 2017.

Many thanks to Lymm Rugby Club for hosting the competition once again. Anyone who has been to this competition knows what a fantastic community venue it is and the club have been brilliant as hosts for this competition.

Finally, many thanks to Lymm High School for allowing their sixth form students to help in the running of the tournament. A special mention needs to go to Drew Fray who displayed fantastic refereeing skills throughout some tough matches. One parent commented that he was fantastic role model to other young people and had done a brilliant job throughout the afternoon. This was due to some awesome training from the local RFU Development Coach Simon Verbickas who has helped train the local leaders in how to referee the game, so many thanks Simon for your help and support.
